This song was actually sung by Sri Adi Sankaracharya when he met his Guru. Praise the soul that composed this song in its infinite divine beauty, let not the wolf don the cow's sheath, for the glory of the truth extols anything material.

Atma Satakam is not composed by Art of Living group. Please dont post false messages like this.
Its the ultimate truth sung by the GREAT SANKARACHARYA when His Guru asked Him "who are you?"

Atma Shatakam or Nirvana Sathakam is one great Shiva Stotram written by Adi Shankaracharya. Shivoham literally means I am Shiva. The translation has been done by Swami Vivekananda. It explains the highest state of consciousness.

Wow, I did not know this post could generate so much of comments. Thanks so much everbody (those who appreciated the blog and those who updated me with the knowledge of who the original composer was). Thanks all. I am glad that the Shivostotram could actually connect all of us. We may be strangers but we are connected as we all appreciate the composition. My Gratitude and Apprication to Sri Adi Sankaracharya for composing it, to The Art of Living Group for singing it so beautifully and bringing it to my life and to all of you for commenting on it and connecting as ONE.

Sulakshan ji,

The last stanza with aham nirvikalpo differs from what Bhanu didi sings. I have had the same lyrics as yours since 1999 with me but not sure which one is right.

, nice thoughts in the morning, in his athmastakam adishankara is more clear on the aspect of surrender in his assertion of ''shivoham shivoham'' .all individual wills being the manifestations of the same one supreme divine will ,they are its own mediums, a result of supreme manifesting as infinite individual wills. hence are not separate from supreme divinity, so all individuals must allow their individual wills to prevail and function free, without any of the bondages and bindings, inhibitions and suppressions, hesitations and questions, in the name of surrender to supreme. as there is none other than oneself to whom one can surrender . so there is no surrender, what ever one does is all supreme's doing himself none other , shivakevaloham, shivo jeevo, jeevo shivo , the non dual, one unity , the supreme divinity
